ssh+git npm install from private repo, custom module name when installed?

In my package.json I’d like to install a module from a repo that I own named example_module and I’d like to however have it installed into node_modules as example_module_new_name. I can’t seem to find any documentation on how to achieve this. As it currently stands the module HAS to be named exactly as it is in my git repo.

"example_module_new_name": "git+ssh://git@git.example.com/project/example_module.git#0.0.1"

Aliasing modules is not possible: https://github.com/npm/npm/issues/2943

But it will be soon: https://github.com/npm/cli/pull/3

Thanks for the quick answers guys! Can’t wait but until then I guess!
