Question: RFCs and Minor Changes

(Joshua) #1

If someone requests, for example, a config option to add a bit of functionality or a small change to make a command easier to use, would that still want to be a RFC or could it just be requested elsewhere or directly PRed?

PS: I have no idea where to put this so I decided on here.

i had the same question when i posted Can the upgrade prompt be disabled from .npmrc?, which resulted in the creation of Npm-side config for suppressing update notifier. worked out fine, but i went through the same thought process.

Config options are conceptually expensive (we have too many of them as it is), so I’d like to see discussion of their being added first before they get PRed. That said, the bar isn’t that high. Open a thread in the ideas category, so we have a place to discuss things. If an RFC is warranted we’ll say.
