NPM Install error : npm ERR! cb() never called!

(James Grant) #1

What I Wanted to Do

npm install to complete without errors

What Happened Instead

The process stopped giving the error β€œnpm ERR! cb() never called!”, creating a log file in the process. err-cb.log (236.1 KB)

Reproduction Steps

The environment I currently have, would be difficult to reproduce since it is a large application.

I’ve tried the following:

  • Downgrading npm from 6.4.1 to 5.6.
  • Setting the ulimit to 65535 and confirmed that it had increased from 1024.
  • npm cache verify
  • Moved the cache to another directory location (as opposed to deleting it).
  • Setting via npm config set commands the proxy settings both for HTTP and HTTPS.

I would like to find out why this is happening, resolve the issue such that I can begin to add new packages.

Any help or guidance supplied would be most gratefully received.

Anyone with even a suggestion as to what to try next? Any help will be gratefully received.

  1. Were there were any Unhandled rejections (they don’t show up in the error log)? Those could point to different problems.
  2. Try npm v6.6.0-next.0.
