module.js:550 Cannot find module 'are-we-there-yet'

I’m installing Node.JS version 8.12.0 on a Windows 2008 r2 server. Seems like Node is installed however when I check the version of npm -v I get the following error.

C:>node -v
v8.12.0

C:>npm -v
module.js:550
throw err;
^

I have repeatably uninstalled and reinstalled Node.JS versions 8.12.0 and 8.11.4 but nothing seems to work.

Thanks a bunch for nay help with this issue.
